Spatial-temporal variations of ecological vulnerability in the Tarim River Basin, Northwest China

چکیده
As the largest inland river basin of China, Tarim River Basin (TRB), known for its various natural resources and fragile environment, has an increased risk ecological crisis due to intensive exploitation utilization water land resources. Since Ecological Water Diversion Project (EWDP), which was implemented in 2001 save endangered desert vegetation, there been growing evidence improvement local regions, but few studies have performed a comprehensive vulnerability assessment whole TRB. This study established evaluation framework integrating analytic hierarchy process (AHP) entropy method estimate TRB covering climatic, ecological, socioeconomic indicators during 2000–2017. Based on geographical detector model, importance ten driving factors spatial-temporal variations explored. The results showed that ecosystem fragile, with more than half area (57.27%) dominated by very heavy grades vulnerability, 28.40% had potential light vulnerability. grade distributed northern regions (Aksu Weigan catchments) western (Kashgar Yarkant catchments), while located southern (Kunlun Mountains Qarqan Mainstream catchment. ecosystems were less vulnerable those eastern regions. From 2000 2017, overall areas great 46.11%, degradation decreased 9.64%. vegetation cover evapotranspiration (PET) obvious factors, explaining 57.56% 21.55% changes across TRB, respectively. In terms changes, spatial differences observed upper, middle, lower reaches different hydrothermal conditions. alpine source region precipitation temperature, meadow Kaidu catchment Middle Tianshan experienced associated overgrazing drought. improved agricultural management technologies positive effects farmland improvement, oasis-desert ecotones decreasing trend as result cropland reclamation riparian greatly implementation EWDP, active tens years. These provide knowledge about processes mechanisms help develop environmental restoration measures based each sub-catchment.

Spatial and Temporal Variations in the Ecological Footprints in Northwest China from 2005 to 2014
Global change is becoming increasingly evident, and human activities are also causing severe damage to natural resources and the environment. Therefore, it is increasingly important to study regional sustainability in order to guide human decisions and actions. The ecological footprint is a useful indicator with which to quantify the pressures imposed by humans on natural resources and regional...

The Arno River seasonal discharge as an index of climate variability: trends and connections to the larger scale variability. The research of the historical record of ice falls brings together many cases that are apparently similar (1–3). Practically all clear-sky ice falls were not appropriately researched because they were routinely assigned, without verification, to aircraft icing processes,...
متن کاملThe Spatial and Temporal Contribution of Glacier Runoff to Watershed Discharge in the Yarkant River Basin, Northwest China
In this paper, a glacial module based on an enhanced temperature-index approach was successfully introduced into the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model to simulate the glacier runoff and water balance of a glacierized watershed, the mountainous region of the Yarkant River Basin (YRB) in Karakoram. Calibration and validation of the SWAT model were based on comparisons between the simula...
متن کاملImpact of spatial-temporal variations of climatic variables on summer maize yield in North China Plain
Summer maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the dominant crops in the North China Plain (NCP). Its growth is greatly influenced by the spatial-temporal variation of climatic variables, especially solar radiation, temperature and rainfall. The WOFOST (version 7.1) model was applied to evaluate the impact of climatic variability on summer maize yields using historical meteorological data from 1961 to 20...

River Ganga is one of the prime sacred National Rivers of India, closely associated with economic, social, and cultural heritage of Indian people. Recently, it has been subjected to immense degradation and pollution as a result of receiving huge amounts of domestic and industrial wastewater as well as religious ritual activities and surface runoff. The present study attempts to study spatial an...
